The 2009 Event

As announced on Saturday 31st January at the Launch Party, this year's route will be Woolacombe to Dawlish Warren.

This offers the ride a great route, and also allows us to take the riders through Exeter for the first time.

D Route

Z Route

Once again, the minimum amount to be raised for the North Devon Hospice is £50.

For 2009 we again have 2 over-lapping routes allowing all riders to start and finish at the same time and meet up at the feeding stations.

D (direct) group : 70 miles of Devon’s rolling hills with breaks at 23,38 & 58 miles. Average cycling speed 10mph.

Z (zigzag) group : 101 miles of Devon with added hills. Same start, finish and breaks but with a few extra miles thrown in. Zig –15 miles extra before coffee. Zag –16 miles extra after lunch. Unite with D for the home run. Average cycling speed 15 mph.

Which route are you?

The overlapping routes will allow riders to “mix and match”, taking in the Zig or Zag if they’re feeling energetic or dropping the Zag if legs are tiring. Both routes are mainly on road with the D group using the Tarka Trail between Braunton and Barnstaple and both groups using cycle trails through Exeter. The D route is suitable for just about any roadworthy bike – we recommend road tyres rather than “knobblies”. The Z rider is likely to be on a road bike (or fast hybrid). For advice, contact any of the organisers or drop in to your local bike shop !

Also to clarify, this year we are introducing a new rule- 'No unaccompanied riders under 16 years old'. This is to allow the younger riders to experience the ride, but also to ensure that hey are supported by someone looking after them.

As before, it is an 8 am start, aiming to finish at 5 at Dawlish Warren, where we will be met by local North Devon star James Chapple.

There will once again be a chance to come back on the coach; this will be released closer to the time- please refer to the home page for mor details.

All riders must wear a helmet, and abide by the laws of the road.
