Devon Coast to Coast Challenge
Newsletter 13
2nd April 2008
Well, the clocks have changed, and wow what a difference! Isn't it GREAT to gave the lighter evenings- more time for riding!
As I always seem to be saying, there has been a lot of happenings since the last newsletter. I would honestly suggest you keep an eye of the front page of the website, as things are coming thick and fast, and we want you all to be as up to date as possible. Obviously, if you have any concerns or questions at any time, please feel free to email me by simply clicking reply to this email, and fire away- if you are asking it, then so will the other people!

The Start
As you will know, we are starting at The Landmark in Ilfracombe- an amazing place to kick the ride off from.
But what you may not know is that we will also be started by the Lantern FM Green Thunder. As well as doing spot interviews amongst us within the starting area, the Green Thunder will be leading us all together out of Ilfracombe! This will once again be a focus for the social aspect of the ride, and give us a great chance to chat as we warm our legs up for the miles to come.
The Journey Home
As advertised on the website, we will once again be running a coach to bring riders home again, on a first come first served basis. Well, the coach is already filling up- our 49 seater coach has only 19 seats left. Same as last year, this will be done on a cost basis, and I can announce that the price this year will be £10 per person (and bike!). This is a small increase over last year, to cover the extra fuel costs. It is also a great chance to sleep or continue the celebrations! If you want a lift on the coach, and have not booked your place yet (hurry!), contact seanross@f2s.com to get your seat reserved!
Last 10 Miles
In another scope for the ride, I am pleased to confirm the rumours- we will be having a police escort for the last 10 miles from Bovey Tracey. By having a police motorcyclist leading us through the AMAZING last 10 miles (I know, I know, I keep on about it!), we can once again focus on riding together, having SAFE fun, and making friends. Social? Yeap. Fancy dress? If you want. Laughs? Definitely!
Googlemaps
We have had a few queries about the route from some keen folk who want to sample parts of it, asking the directions. Don't forget to check out the route page for the 2008 ride on the website, as it contains links to google maps pages from our very own human GPS Dr Chicken Legs Ross. We do hope that you will use these to drill down and see where we will be going!
100 by the end of April?
As I type this, 71 of you have registered already for the challenge this year. Compare that against the 95 of you who rode last year, and we are on the way for a big one! The great news is, the posters and the North Devon Festival leaflets are only just going out!
But hey, let me give you a challenge. If you are riding, or know someone else who will be, and you have not registered yet, then what are you waiting for? Let's get to 100 by the end of April to show the North Devon Hospice that we are here to support them! Let's get our presence felt!
-On the day
I have had a couple emails about what is needed on the day, money wise. I can now confirm that on the day, you will need to bring your £10 entry fee , and also your £10 coach cost if you are coming back on it. Our request is simple- 2 £10 notes would be very appreciated.
The sponsorship money will be collected separately, using an envelop system to send your money straight to the Hospice direct. This ensures that your funds get to where they are needed quickly and efficiently- and also help us track the amounts raised closely.
-Packs
As promised, the packs for the rides are taking shape, and will be sent out during early May. The packs will contain loads of fact and details about the ride, including expectations and routes. It will also be available to download on the website.
-Posters
The posters have been drafted and approved- and they look great! Designed by those great folk at Salad Design (the guys behind our great logo), they not only look great, but also gives an overview of the route. They are in the process of being distributed out to shops around the country now, and will soon be available to download from the site. If in the meantime you would like one, please click reply and ask me to send you one!
Wow! With all this going on, is it any wonder that I have even looked at my bike for a couple months! Thank heavens for the lighter evenings so I can drag my sorry behind out. Please, if you see me, just dont mention my belly, alright?
Till next time- happy riding!
Simon
