Devon Coast to Coast Challenge Newsletter Number 7

August 1st 2007

Welcome to the Seventh Devon Coast to Coast newsletter!

The ride came, the ride went, and it's just stopped raining. I feel that it went well- the feedback has been very uplifting, so thank you to all those who took the time to comment. Though of you who have made suggestions, thank you as well- rest assured, they will all be discussed at the next meeting down the pub.

Arse!

Those arse's will get wet, you know!

I look back on July 1st with a wet arse and a warm heart- it was a cool thing!

This month's newsletter includes-

  • Monies Raised
  • Next year
  • Photo Gallery
  • Poll
  • The Dartmoor Challenge
  • Website programming

So let's start riding!

  • Monies Raised

How are we doing so far? Well, with all the money which was taken on the day, the Just Giving Site, and the funds which I have been notified about that have been sent direct, the total is..... £6800 so far! Give yourself a clap!

BUT... I am sure that there is a lot more to come in. If we are to reach the magical £10,000 figure- which I know we can- then I need to list every penny which has been given. Heck, there may even be some people out there who are still collecting.

Therefore can I ask that you all help me- if you know anyone else who rode, ask them about their money, and then email me (simply click reply) with the amounts. Unfortunately, this is never an exact game; previous years shows that the actual figures and the reported figures do vary a fair bit (on the positive side- more goes to the charity than we know about).

But for us to measure how the ride has done, and so we can grow it next year, this is an important stage.

Thank you for your help with this.

  • Next year

We are about to start the planning for The 2008 ride. We have already had some great feedback from the 2007 ride, and are keen to 'evolve' the ride for next time- and we want your input.

What would you like to see for next year? What would you like to see included, or dropped, to make the ride bigger and better? If we don't know it, it won't be done!

  • Photo Gallery

The Photo gallery has been growing and growing, and we now have over 300 pictures from the ride.

With the weather as it is recently, why not grab a cup of coffee, and remember just how hard the ride was!

Click here for the main gallery page (http://www.coast-coast.co.uk/2007%20details.html).

  • Poll

New to the Blog now is a monthly poll, where you can get your opinions heard. I will vary the range of the polls, ut will mostly be cycling/ coast to cast orientated- have you voted yet? Visit the blog here (http://thecharityride.blogspot.com/) and have your click!

  • The Dartmoor Challenge

What you doing September 23rd?

Fancy a ride?

Mark has found out about this ride (http://www.bike-events.com/Ride.aspx?id=144), and has 'motivated' a few of us into riding. Now, normally that time of year, I would be seen eating the pies- but oh no, no this year!

There are 2 routes, we are going for the longer one, under the team of 'The Devon Coast-Coasters'. Hey- 53 miles should be a walk in the park after what we did!

So, fancy joining us? If so, send Mark an email here (markhenderson12@hotmail.com ) for more details.

  • Website programming

The website has been a cornerstone of the ride, and has turned into a great community for us to discuss bike stuff. But I am looking to give it a make over in the next couple months- to make it brighter, easier and fresh.

I am self taught on HTML and programming, and use Dreamweaver 8 on an Apple Mac with OSX. I am after some more specialist knowledge to build the site to my 'vision'. Can you help me with this knowledge? I will do the work, but I need a real 'techie' to get it off the ground with some email support. in particular, I am after someone with Database experience, to make the registration process smoother.

So, my little Coast to Coast community- do you fit the bill? If so, please email me!

Coming next month!

Who won the prize for the most raised?

What can we look forward to in next year's ride?

What can I do over winter to keep the pies at bay?

See you next month!
