A history of The Coast-Coast ride.

Pile

During the Summer of 1999, I fell off a rope swing, whilst prating around, and ended up in a cast with my ankle ligaments badly torn.

During this period, I had chance to think. Me and pud-racing (www.pud-racing.co.uk) had often talked about riding from Ilfracombe to Plymouth, Coast-coast, but never anything more than talk.

Well, I wanted to make it happen. Initially, I thought about us guys doing it for charity. But when you do this, you think about raising as much as possible for the charity, and that meant opening it up for anyone.

1999

Four riders, £1250 raised for The Children's Hospice South West.
This time it was 4 days before the millennium, and the weather was interesting.
From the great sunshine between Barnstaple and Torrington, to the snow and hail across Dartmoor.
This was the first time I had arranged anything like this, and it was brilliant. Great support from Trustcott's, and Bike It of Newport, Barnstaple. The pictures are here.
And then I rested.
And rested.
But then I went out for another ride-
just after Christmas, 2003;
strange things happen when I do this.
I get oxygen to my brain, and things happen.
So it all happened again.

COAST-COAST MAY 23RD 2004

The second ride- this time, we had brilliant sunshine (and I had sun burnt thighs big time).
2004 crew
Eight great riders.
£1350 raised.
Great support from Silver Street Cycles, Southfork Cycles
and The North Devon Antiques Center.
Food by Tesco's.
I love doing this ride.
The feeling of riding into Plymouth is amazing-
one of the best feeling's I have had on two wheels. The Pictures are here.

Sunday July 2006

This time we have a committee!
A lot bigger event again, with 35+ riders,
raising £3000 for the Children's Hospice South West.
The Pictures are here.
